Position Summary: 

In this internship Quality/Manufacturing college internship role, the candidate will work with the FIIS Operations Manager and the Operations Team to support FIIS Operations in continuous improvement efforts by analyzing the current state and recommending and helping to implement changes.

 

Helps to document the floor layouts of the manufacturing facility and evaluates opportunities for improvement.  Assists in the design and build of jigs, fixtures, and tools to assist in improving the efficiency of assembly operations.  Assist in the review and improvement of Manufacturing work instructions and makes recommendations for changes.  Time studies and recommends improvements to assembly operations.

  

KNOWLEDGE

Learns to use professional concepts. Applies company policies and procedures to resolve routine issues.

Works on problems of limited scope. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained. Builds stable working relationships internally.

SUPERVISION

Normally receives detailed instructions on all work.

EXPERIENCE

Typically requires no previous professional experience.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Review and improve Manufacturing Work instructions and Training Records.
  • Work with Manufacturing team to implement fixturing and tooling improvements.
  • Work to document and improve the FIIS Assembly Training program.
  • Time Study and Document Labor times for repetitive items.
  • Assists in providing direct production line support and hands on problem solving.
  • Engineering and Material Review Board coordination and support.
  • Ergonomics/Safety support
  • Drive Continuous Improvement of Assembly processes through LEAN methods, root cause solutions of problems, and adoption of best practices
  • Support Introduction of New Products into Manufacturing.
  • Identify opportunities to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
  • Determine root causes of failures using failure analysis, statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
  • Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

 

  • Completing  a course of studies in the Engineering discipline or other technical area
  • Solidworks Experience
  • AutoCad familiarity 
  • Ability to perform work independently to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Advanced math and computational skills.
  • Advanced reasoning skills to analyze and solve applications problems
  • Statistical analysis
  • Technical aptitude

 

Desired:

  • Time Study of work.
  • Facility Layout knowledge
  • Well versed in lean concepts
  • Experience in area of tool design
